Cancer survivors are invited to attend our free art classes called Expressions of Art & Hope. We have partnered with LUX Center for the Arts to offer you the opportunity to explore a creative process of self-expression and reflection to help you meet the challenges of diagnosis, treatment and beyond.
Due to equipment needed, classes are held at the LUX Center for the Arts, located at 2601 N 48th Street in Lincoln. Enter the LUX from the West parking lot entrance.
Clay Face Tiles: Monday, February 8, 6 - 8 p.m. Face your fears and try your hand at sculpting a realistic human face! The instructor will break the process down into a simple step-by-step process that anyone can follow. Register now
Bookbinding & Journal Making: Monday, March 14, 6 - 8 p.m. Learn to make your own books and journals using the long stitch binding method. Everyone will walk away with a least one journal and the skills to make many more!
Illustration with Colored Pencils: Monday, April 11, 6 - 8 p.m. Explore the possibilities of drawing with artist-grade colored pencils. Talented illustrator Jon Love will walk you through multiple techniques to blend and create tones and colors.
Street Art and Spray Painted Stencils: Monday, May 9, 6 - 8 p.m. Experiment with stencils, spray paint, and wallpaper graphics. One wall at the LUX will be available for you to step out of your comfort zone and bring out your inner street artist. Come ready to work outside, make a mess, and try new things! (In case of inclement weather we will swap projects with the June class)
Fused Glass: Monday, June 20, 6 - 8 p.m. Cut and layer colorful glass to create sun catchers and pendants. Participants can create multiple projects that will be fired and returned at the following class. Former students can bring previous fused glass projects to alter or include in new works.
