Personalizing Your Experience

At St. Elizabeth, your labor and delivery experience can be tailored to your individual needs and desires. We work with you to account for your individual and family traditions, customs, and beliefs and incorporate them into your baby’s birth. This personalized approach yields high-quality care that starts your baby’s life off on the right foot.

Our skilled nurses, with more than 100 years of collective experience, provide expert, specialized care throughout your stay. In addition, should you need it, our NICU provides a highly rated quality of care that’s unmatched by any other in the state.

Going into Labor

If you’re unsure of what to do after you go into labor, follow these steps. Please note: If your situation is an emergency, you should go to the emergency department (on the west side of the hospital) or call 911.

  • Call ahead to St. Elizabeth (402-219-7070). We will prepare for your arrival.
  • When you arrive, park in the parking garage on the south side of the medical center. Take the elevator to Level 1.
  • Go to the East Tower elevators, located directly across from the Foundation, and take them to Level 4.
  • Leaving the elevator, you will enter the labor and delivery area for admission.
  • A registered nurse will care for you and will notify your provider of your progress.
  • If you arrive at St. Elizabeth after 10 p.m., please enter through the emergency department on the west side of the hospital. For the security of our patients, the front doors are locked between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Adjusting Postpartum

After your baby’s birth, we will help you get settled in your postpartum suite. A nurse will teach you about postpartum self-care after delivery as well as caring for your baby, including bathing, cord care, feeding and circumcision care, if needed.

Your newest family member will join you in your room so you can continue getting to know each other. We encourage you to make decisions and be involved in your baby’s care while at the hospital. To help you learn more about infant care and parenting, every room has 24/7 access to the Newborn TV Channel, a resource developed by national experts.

We also provide:

  • A lactation consultant to assist you in successful breastfeeding
  • Daily “quiet time” for parents to spend special time with their baby
  • A family kitchen supplied with beverages and snacks
  • A complimentary bag and Lil’ Husker T-shirt for your baby
  • Professional photos from Charley’s Angels Premier Newborn Photography
  • Computers, available by request
  • Newspaper birth announcement forwarding services
  • Assistance applying for your baby’s Social Security card
