Virtually Scarless Surgery

Single-incision robotic surgery is a new procedure performed with just one single incision through the belly button so you can get back to life quicker, and it leaves you with only a minimal scar hidden in your belly button. The technology from da Vinci® Single-Site™ robotic surgery system makes the surgery possible. Currently, two surgeries – gallbladder removal and hysterectomy – are performed  with this innovative procedure.

As one of the first hospitals in the region to offer this new procedure, it demonstrates our commitment to offering the most advanced surgical options. St. Elizabeth is proud to be among the first 50 hospitals in the United States to offer a single-incision robotic hysterectomy. A surgical team at Saint Elizabeth led by Dr. Gregory Heidrick performed Nebraska's first procedure of this kind. St. Elizabeth is also one of three hospitals in Nebraska offering single-incision gallbladder removal. Using this new robotic technology, the gallbladder can be removed through a tiny incision in the belly button - leaving you virtually free of scars. Dr. Greg Fitzke and Dr. Rick Windle are among four surgeons trained to perform this innovative procedure in Nebraska. Learn more about single-incision gallbladder removal.
